A Learning System Engineering Approach to Developing Online Courses

Bower, M.

The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, to present the systematic 'Learning System Engineering' approach adopted by Macquarie University to constructing a new online Graduate Diploma of Information Technology. Second, to present the pedagogical and technological research and development that resulted from implementation of the Learning System Engineering cycle. Emphasis is placed upon the application of technologies to learning. It is intended that sharing the experience gained in both the development of the Learning System Engineering approach and the decisions made as a result of its implementation will be of value to other institutions embarking on similar projects.
