Four Platforms : Moral perspectives on Information Technology

Holkner, B.

This paper is concerned with the ways in which information technology is taught and understood with respect to values. At the heart of these concerns is the way in which information technology is positioned in students' views of making choices and bringing about change. The background for this work derives from the existing literature of social structures which include information technology, and the work of recent theorists of moral perspectives. Four points of view have been developed in an attempt to identify areas of concern which may lead to approaches to curriculum planning concerned with values, and areas for further research. These points of view are described as 'platforms' since there is a resonance for the author in overseeing familiar terrain from above, or at least at a new critical distance.
