Applying Patterns to Novice Programming Problems

Porter, R. and Calder, P.

A major difficulty for novice programmers is the application of their knowledge of programming language features to the solving of novel problems. As patterns are built around problem-solution pairs their use in this context is indicated. This paper suggests a process for applying patterns to problems and demonstrates its use in a simple example problem.
