A Community Club on Safety-Critical Systems

Redmill, F.

To mark the inauguration of an Australian community club on safety-critical systems, this paper reviews eleven years of experience of the UK's Safety-Critical systems Club, which came into being on 1st May 1991. The paper first summarises the background to the Club's formation, and the Club's objectives, structure, and financial arrangements. It then reviews the Club's activities and achievements and extracts lessons for the Australian Club. The paper discusses changes that have taken place in the safety-critical systems domain since the Club's formation, and offers suggestions on a variety of challenges that the Australian Club might address and the influences that it could exert.
